First of all, you will need to decide which fonts you want to
install. You can browse by font category (we are continuing to assign fonts to specific
categories) or browse alphabetically or
use the search function to find a
specific free font. Click any of the links on the main navigation above to begin
to view your free font to test and then just click on the red "download now"
words.
*When you download a font from our site,
make sure you make note of where you are storing the font zip file on
your computer.
Mosf of the free fonts you can download at
freefontfun.com are made for
Windows PC and are True Type Fonts. The directions below are for
True Type Font installation.
Step 1 (Unzipping Downloaded Files)
All of the fonts available to download on
freefontfun.com are
packaged in ZIP-files/archives (*.zip), which most of the time also
includes copyright information about the font (such as the author and
usage abilities) with the actual font file. Before installing a font,
you will need to "extract" the font from the the ZIP-file/archive to an
area/folder on your PC using a tool such as the following:
FreeZip (freeware)
7-Zip (freeware)
ZipGenius
(freeware)
BigSpeed
Zipper (freeware)
TurboZip (pay to
use software)
WinZip
(pay to use software)
Our suggestion is to extract the
ZIP-archive directly onto your desktop or to a temporary folder
(C:\Temp). You must remember where you extracted these files, because
you will need to locate where these files are in step two and will most
likely want to delete the zip files once the font is installed.
Step 2 (Actual Installation for
Windows 95/98/2000 or NT4)
1. Open the Windows Control Panel ( > START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL)
Please Note: In Windows XP, choose Start > Control Panel
2. Double click on the "Fonts" icon in the Control Panel
(a new window should open and you should see all the installed fonts on
your system)
3. Click on the "File" menu and select "Install New Fonts" (a new window
"Add Fonts" should pop up )
4. Locate the folder on your hard drive where you put the extracted
fonts from step 1
5. Double Click on the font file you wish to install and click on the
"OK" button
The font should now be installed and available to all your applications
using fonts, such as Word or a graphics programs that you may utilize.
